About Warren County
The first fair in Warren County was on October 27-28, 1859.The fairgrounds were located near the river, just south of the old depot. Two fairs were held at this location before the war between the states caused cancellation of the fair in 1861.The fair was apparently revived in 1867 in a limited form. In 1868 the fair got underway in a big fashion. A fair was held each year at this location through 1880.The 1880 fair was the
last fair held in Warren County for 35 years. The fair was again revived in 1915.It was conducted on the grounds of the old City Grammar School or nearby. On June 9,1922 the Warren County Fair Association was chartered. The fair was held on Red Road. It was a three-day event and included a large carnival and “free-acts. ”The admission was 25 cents per person or 50 cents per family. This fair was very successful for many years.
In 1954,the Warren County A&L Fair was chartered as a “free fair.” It has operated as a “free fair ”each year since its inception. Since 1954 there have only been seven men who have served as president of the Warren County Fair Association. They are:
James Kruminsh and Friends
During each president ’s administration, the Warren County Fair has continued to thrive and prosper. Today it is recognized as one of the leading “county fairs ”of its size in the
state! Each year, our fair is in hot contention for one of the top awards given for fairs in our class. With continued support from the people of Warren County, there is no reason to believe that the Warren County A&L Fair will not continue its growth and improvement and will remain one of the “best of the best ”among fairs in Tennessee.
will there be a photo contest at this years( 2011 ) fair??
